Bolt EV brake fluid change (step by step)
Changing the brake fluid in your Chevy Bolt EV is a task you can tackle with the right tools and a bit of patience. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you through the process:
Prepare Your Work Area: Ensure you have a clean, well-lit space to work in. Gather all necessary tools, including a brake fluid bleeder, new brake fluid, and a wrench set.
Locate the Brake Fluid Reservoir: Open the hood and find the brake fluid reservoir. It’s usually located near the back of the engine bay, close to the windshield.
Remove the Old Brake Fluid: Use a brake fluid bleeder to remove the old fluid from the reservoir. Be careful not to spill any fluid, as it can damage paint and other surfaces.
Clean the Reservoir: Wipe down the inside of the reservoir with a clean, lint-free cloth to remove any residue.
Add New Brake Fluid: Pour the new brake fluid into the reservoir until it reaches the “MAX” line. Make sure to use the type of brake fluid specified in your owner’s manual.
Bleed the Brakes: Starting with the wheel farthest from the master cylinder (usually the rear passenger side), use the brake fluid bleeder to remove any air bubbles from the brake lines. Repeat this process for each wheel, moving closer to the master cylinder.
Test Your Brakes: Once all the wheels have been bled, test the brakes to ensure they feel firm and responsive. If they feel spongy, you may need to bleed the brakes again.
